Katja Mustonen (D/FIN) – class 3 h

Is a Finnish dancer, teacher and dance maker, who currently works and lives in Frankfurt, Germany. She graduated from the Vocational Dance School in Outukumpu, Finland 2004 as dancer, and holds a MA degree in “Contemporary Dance Pedagogy” from the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt, Germany. Since 2008, she’s been teaching Contemporary Dance Technique, Improvisation and Contact Improvisation both in Frankfurt and abroad. She is curious about the unknown as a source for creativity, and considers it to be the best teacher for change and growth. States of presence and the body’s ability to transform, embody, and transmit images, knowledge, emotions and ideas continue to fascinate and inspire her movement practice, research and life.
En Route – moving the relation
During this Contact & Improvisation class we move from spine to periphery, dive from touching the skin through layers of systems until the bone. We let our breath guide us between the expansions as we spread wide open and let go to empty. We whirl from standing to floor to fall from floor back to standing. Practice variable of states from being – doing, sensing – acting, still – motion, rest – awake.
We engage bodies availability to encouter its environment with soft strenght, responsive and playfull, resistant and receiving. We balance weight by giving and sharing, pouring gradually over and yielding into support again, every touch as another entry into anew journey.
We assamble pathways from solo to duet, from duets to different size of collaborations with others. We’ll play with the ability to alter spaces, and suspend time. We dip into waves of momentum whilst we emphasize the notions of space-time-dynamics as a core for more light, aware and lively dancing.
