Frey Faust (DE/IT) – Pre-Festival Workshop – 12h + jams
Oblique curving, looping, winding, oscillating and turning – If we take the pathways suggested by our joints, we will lengthen and strengthen several muscles in one movement, so we can actually do away with many other “exercises”, which target reduced areas, single ligaments or muscles. Isolating muscles educates those muscles to work separately from the others. This is not what we need as we move through life. Our bodies function best as collaborating systems, not isolated systems that we call up one by one. If we work with movements that curve through plane and angle changes, we can avoid crashing, […]

Instant Decomposition | Falling apart – Certain improvisers or ‘techniques’ talk of improvisation as instant or real-time composition. In this intensive we would like to explore a somewhat different perspective: improvisation as instant decomposition. We would like us to ask how to decompose what we think we know about the world, our bodies, other ‘people’/bodies, the past, the future and the present moment. Our intuition is that it is through decomposition that a ground is created for something really ‘new’ to happen (think of compost). Decomposition is not something one does, it is something that happens (to us, to the relational ecology […]

Orchestrated body and scenarios for listening – In my last years of dancing CI, I’ve been exploring the idea of a solo while being in contact with one or many dancing creatures. This workshop considers the body as an orchestra that consists of many parts playing together to the symphony of our dancing. Through the palette of tools, exercises and scores we inspire and generate action for improvisations and expand our ability to stay aware simultaneously with many things at ones. We enliven our solo dancing in order to spark and twist our connections in CI through tasks that ask for an […]

Earth-Body-Sky – This class is a way to go together since the roots of the planet to the edge of the cosmos through this fabulous channel : the body! The first step will be based on the links with the environment, with the simplicity of conscious breathing. The next step is about our roots, our link to the floor, our anchor to the ground in order to intensify our stability, to strengthen our center (of mass). Then, the last step is linked with the space around (near and far) to facilitate the experience of lifts in Contact Improvisation. This dance […]

Being silent, seen and seeing Authentic Movement embraces Contact Improvisation – When I close my eyes, I become silent… Then I start to listen to my inner impulses, and I see myself moving. I can enter the unknown, make decisions, finding a quality of presence which belongs especially to this shared moment. When I keep my eyes open, I am still… Then I start to be moved, within, by what I see: I see you. I allow my sensations, emotions and imagination to arise, and let myself be touched.”Authentic Movement explores the relationship between a mover and a witness, by […]

“Between seeing and looking” An approach to Compositional Improvisation through the language of Tuning Scores Workshop designed to immerse participants in the practice of Tuning Scores (practice created by Lisa Nelson). This investigation will explore two complementary approaches to improvisation and composition. The sensory field of perception, which awakens and “tunes” the imagination, towards improvisation and the language of these scores that allow tuning the senses in relation to their habits of survival, imagination, memory and their relationships between time, rhythm, space and composition. Paula Zacharías (ARG) Alexander Technique teacher (graduated from ETABA 2014) and dance improvisation and composition. Bachelor […]
